2009 Results West Coast Preview official site Results Below PORTLAND, Ore. --- Senior Lyndy Davis captured the individual win while teammates sophomore Elizabeth Keaveny, freshman Molly Mitchell and sophomore Shane Geiger all had top-five finishes to lead the University of Portland men’s and women’s cross country teams at the West Coast Preview Meet, hosted by UP at Pier Park. The women raced to a first place finish in the 6K race with a team score of 29, ahead of West Coast Conference rival Gonzaga’s 32 and Willamette’s 90. Meanwhile the men scored a 98 in the 8K race to finish third behind Gonzaga’s 36 and Willamette’s 39. Portland raced primarily its ‘B’ team runners for the men. Davis
raced to first-place in 22:27:00 while Keaveny came in at 23:06:00 just
behind Gonzaga’s Molly Funk (2nd, 22:39:00). Mitchell crossed the
finish line in fourth with a mark of 23:09:00 followed by Brenn
Donnelly of Gonzaga in fifth place with a time of 23:17:00. Sophmore
Sarah Auer (9th, 23:31:00) and senior Megan Smith (12th, 24:00:00)
closed out the scoring for the Pilots. Other Portland finishers
included Stephanie Bolce (15th, 24:25:00), Lindsay Baker (19th, 24:35),
Nora Panitz (23rd, 24:59:00), Andrea Guthrie (26th, 25:13:00), Hailey
Knettles (32nd, 25:37:00), Briana Gallaher (38th, 26:06:00), Katie
Nelson (39th, 26:28:00), Abigial King (42nd, 26:43:00), Breanna Wetsch
(44th, 27:14:00), Christine Dollard (46th, 27:29:00) and Katie Lafrenz
(48th, 27:50:00).
“The
athletes we ran today did a really nice job in hot conditions,” women’s
coach Ian Solof said. “We held out a handful of quality varsity runners
today so I’m looking forward to running our entire team in the next few
weeks.”
Other
teams competing at the meet were Seattle University (112 points),
Warner Pacific (140 points), Clark CC ( 198 points) and Mt. Hood CC
(218 points).
For
the men, Shane Geiger placed a UP best fifth-place, clocking in at
26:12. Placing in the top-two spots were Portland freshmen running
unattached Joash Osoro and Trevor Dunbar. Osoro raced to a 25:30.79
finish while Dunbar crossed the finish line with a time of 25:49.00.
Matt Parker (3rd, 25:55.00) of Willamette and Brett Withers (4th, 26:03.00) of Gonzaga rounded out the top-five finishers.
Junior
Scott Olberding (9th, 26:28.00), junior Derek Simmons (25th, 27:34.00),
redshirt freshman Michael Manning (31st, 27:49:00) and sophomore Sean
Thomas (55th, 29:40:00) rounded out the team scoring for the Pilots.
Sophomore Nathan Thornton finished in 56th with a time of 29:41:00.
“Shane’s running is better than last year,” said men’s head coach Rob Conner. “His hard work over the summer is paying off.”
Other
teams competing at the meet were Warner Pacific (106 points), Seattle
University (135 points), Clark CC (147 points), Mt. Hood CC (225
points) and Clackamas CC (241 points).
The Pilot men and women return to action on Oct. 2 at the Bill Dellinger Invitational in Springfield, Ore.
